Renovation of a pond near the historical site of Sitamarhi

Sitamarhi is a historical site where Mata Sita was born.  A Paundrik Ashram temple is located near the historical Punoura Dham. There are many stories associated with this place. It is said to be the sacred land of Pundarik Rishi. In ancient times, it used to be a jungle. This place is also significant in the story of King Janak’s Haleshti Yajna and the birth of Mata Janaki. It is believed that due to being a holy land, this place was more energized

There is an old temple at this place, with a crematorium nearby and a large pond in front of the temple. There are many stories associated with this pond as well. It is said that King Janak performed a ploughing ceremony here during the Haleshti Yajna. Recently, the Fisheries Department was carrying out fish breeding in this pond. The shores of the pond were badly damaged and there was litter all around. There is also a Bhagwati temple located in the cremation ground. There was no road leading to the temple. At the beginning of the year 2021, the district administration decided to undertake the restoration of this site through the MGNREGA scheme. As part of this scheme, a pavement block was constructed in front of the temple, roads were built on the remaining three sides, and a staircase was built towards the temple. Additionally, a road connecting the Bhagwati temple was also planned. Encroachments were removed, and the trust of the villagers was gained before commencing the work. The project was initiated with an estimated amount of 78 lakh 33 thousand.

The renovation and cleaning of the pond, along with the repair work done on its banks and approaches near a historical and religious place, brings immense benefits to the community. Firstly, the restoration enhances the spiritual and religious significance of the area, providing a tranquil and serene environment for worshippers and visitors alike. The rejuvenated pond creates a space for meditation, reflection, and prayer, allowing individuals to connect deeply with their faith. Moreover, the clean and well-maintained pond ensures the preservation of the ecological balance by providing a suitable habitat for numerous species of plants and animals. This not only contributes to the overall biodiversity but also serves as a living example of environmental stewardship. Furthermore, the repaired banks and approaches offer a safe and easily accessible area for devotees and tourists to gather, ensuring their comfort and convenience. Ultimately, the revitalization of this historical and religious place fosters a sense of cultural pride and reverence, reinforcing the importance of preserving our heritage for future generations.
