MGNREGA Workers Venture into Entrepreneurship

In Adapur, GP Belwa is set to witness the establishment of a community store and market. With a population of 500 Jeevika members and other underprivileged women, the Panchayat has decided to provide them with credit cards, allowing them to make purchases up to Rs. 3000 per month. The repayment period for this amount will be 35 days, and no interest will be charged on it. The bank will be assisting in this initiative.

The construction of this store has been made possible through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The SHG group will be entrusted with the responsibility of running the store, which will not only serve the community but also provide employment opportunities for the locals. This initiative aims to empower the women in Belwa and improve their economic condition.

In this shop, milk, vegetables, and groceries will also be available. The ‘Panchayat Sachiv’ will be the secretary of this shop and ‘Panchayat Rozgar Sewak’will be the member of the operating group. The vegetables will be locally sourced and the shop will be monitored by CCTV.

The provision of credit cards to these women will enable them to have greater financial independence. They will have the freedom to choose the items they require and the ability to pay for them on a monthly basis, thus reducing the burden of immediate payment.

Furthermore, the absence of any interest on the repayment amount is a significant relief, ensuring that the women can make purchases without worrying about additional financial strain.

By implementing this scheme, the Panchayat is promoting financial inclusion among its community members. It recognizes the importance of giving individuals, especially women, the means to make their own decisions and be self-sufficient. Providing credit cards for monthly purchases puts money directly into the hands of these women, giving them the authority to manage their finances.

This initiative will not only benefit the women involved, but it will also have a positive impact on the local economy. The establishment of the community store and market will create a hub for trade and commerce, fostering economic growth in Belwa. It will attract customers from the village and surrounding areas, generating business opportunities for small-scale vendors and artisans.

Overall, the introduction of credit cards and the establishment of a community store and market in Belwa’s is a step towards empowering the rural population, especially women, by providing them with financial autonomy. This initiative not only supports economic development but also promotes inclusivity and equality within the community. The Panchayat’s efforts to uplift its members are commendable and serve as an inspiration for other villages to follow suit.
