West Dhekaha is strategically positioned on the bank of Dhanauti river with a lake in the middle of the GP, known for its fertile soil, which makes agriculture the primary occupation for the majority of the population. The area is characterized by vast stretches of lush green farmland, dotted with small patches of forests and water bodies, adding to its picturesque beauty.

The panchayat is home to a diverse and vibrant community that primarily comprises people from rural backgrounds. The local residents engage in various agricultural activities like farming, animal husbandry, and dairy farming. The major crops cultivated in this region include paddy, maize, wheat, and fruits such as mangoes and bananas. The fertile land and favourable weather conditions contribute to the high agricultural productivity of the region.
Last year District administration motivated the farmers to integrate trees with agriculture and had a workshop along with MNREGA team of Motihari block to adopt a sustainable, resilient and environment friendly approach to farming. They had been informed about the plantation schemes, multiple environment benefits such as soil conservation, biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation.
The result of the campaign is now also encouraging farmers of surrounding west Dhekaha and Gorhwa panchayats. The farmers are now integrating trees and crops now. More than 150 farmers of west Dhekahan and 30 from Gorhwa panchayats are beneficiary of MGNREGA plantation schemes and diversifying their land use through the cultivation of multiple crops and incorporating tree species. Meanwhile block MNREGA team keep them introducing from offering them the seeds and sampling of various timber, nuts, spices and medicinal species.
Now west Dhekaha is started serving as an excellent example, demonstrating how agroforestry practices can contribute to both economic prosperity and ecological restoration.
